Leadership
Key Stage 4 Curriculum
Brixham College provides a broad and balanced curriculum, but we also offer extended opportunities for learning in areas that reflect the concerns and demands of the local community and which enrich the lives of our students. The curriculum includes the compulsory elements (English, Maths, Science, PSHE & RE, Values) and opportunity to follow GCSE examination subjects of particular interest. We believe 9 subjects is appropriate for our students and an amount which meets entry requirements for colleges, employers or Universities.
Learning at this stage is aimed at giving students the skills, competencies and knowledge that they need to progress into further education, training or employment. Subjects studied should be wide ranging and balanced.
We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all of our learners, but also offer the flexibility of practical courses in coursework based subjects leading to a range of qualifications. At Brixham College we value all that our students do; our aim is to ensure that we get the right students on the right courses at the right time in their lives.
To ensure a balanced selection, students should look carefully at the information about the courses on offer, taking particular notice of the demands of each course. Whilst there is flexibility within the Guided subject offer, the College will ensure students follow appropriate pathways which will enable them to have a good progression route for the next stage of their life at Brixham College and beyond.
