Brixham College is thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Julia, a talented sixth form student who recently secured an impressive 7th place finish at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Peru.

Julia continues to display her strength, determination, and excellence on the international stage. Just three weeks after her success in Peru, she participated in the European Weightlifting Championships in Greece, where she earned a silver medal by finishing in 2nd place.

Her outstanding performance at these events highlights her athletic abilities and her unwavering commitment to her sport.

Julia, who is just 16 years old, currently competes in the under-17 category. Her rigorous training regimen involves training five to six times a week.

Despite the demanding nature of her training schedule, Julia manages to balance her athletic commitments with her academic responsibilities. This balance is made possible by the support she receives from her teachers and the school community at Brixham College, a proud member of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust.

Mark Eager, Principal at Brixham College, praises Julia’s recent success:

"Julia has done amazingly well and embodies everything we value at Brixham College.

“Despite being away for considerable amounts of time, focusing on her training and competitions, Julia continues to excel academically. She keeps her tutor updated while she is at training camps and during competitions, showcasing her commitment to her education."

“Julia’s recent success underscores the importance of balancing academic pursuits with extracurricular passions, a balance that Brixham College actively promotes and supports.”

Julia and her sister Alexandra, also a student at Brixham College, are coached by their father, who plays a pivotal role in their training and development as athletes. The sisters train alongside each other, pushing each other to achieve new heights.

Reflecting on her journey, Julia expressed her gratitude for the support she has received:

"The support from our school, teachers, and family has been amazing, especially when we are away training and competing. Our teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure we stay on track with our studies."

Julia previously shared:"Never give up on striving to achieve your dreams. From my experience, I would encourage other students like me to try their hardest. There will be some days where you feel like you can’t continue, but don’t let those days affect you in the long run; it will be possible if you stay committed to it."
