The aim of the event was to provide the Year 10 BTEC pupils with the opportunity to explore orchestral music and appreciate the range of instruments available for them to compose for.
They visited Coombeshead Academy in Newton Abbot for the session, along with some other schools in the area, which organised by the Devon and Torbay Music Education Hub.
Mr. Hardman, Deputy Faculty Leader for Creative Media, said it’s important for the students to understand different types of music.
He said: "The orchestra performed a series of pieces of music from across the ages. This included a piece from a contemporary video game called 'Little Orpheus' which will support students in their BTEC assignment, where many of them have chosen to study video game music.
"Presented by musician and composer Patrick Bailey, the concert included tips on how to get started with a composition and also an insight into how the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra works.
"This visit links well with their assignment they have just started about video game music, which also links well with how an orchestra works as a business within the industry. It was great to see our students getting involved with answering some of the questions confidently, using musical language."
