Four talented, young gymnasts have been selected to represent Brixham College at the School Games County Championship Gymnastics Finals on 26th March.

Sienna and Freya, both in year 7, and Sofia and Olivia from year 8, will compete against schools from across Devon for the chance to become Gymnastics County Champions.

The four students were originally selected to enter the Virtual Gymnastics County Final Qualifiers through School Games England, after having only two days to practice their routines.

Sofia and Olivia entered the Gold category, with Freya & Sienna entering the Platinum heat.

Miss L. Jayne, Teacher of P.E. and Health and Social Care, expressed her immense pride in this fantastic achievement for the students.

“Sienna, Freya, Sofia, and Olivia have all worked so hard and should be proud of this fantastic achievement!

“The opportunity to represent Brixham College at county level is remarkable, and I can’t wait to see our students showcase themselves on such a big stage”.

Reflecting on her achievement and looking ahead to Thursday, Sofia said "I'm really glad I got the chance to compete in the competition and I'm happy to be selected for the finals along with my best friend Olivia."

The School Games is a national programme which aims to put sport and activities at the heart of school life; making a positive difference to young lives.

Brixham College is proud to support the School Games mission by providing opportunities for students to stay active in a range of sports.

Miss R. Blackshaw, Principal at Brixham College, recognised the four students as fantastic examples of embodying the school’s key values.

“At Brixham College, we’re proud to deliver a values-based curriculum which supports high expectations and continuous improvement.

“Reaching the county gymnastics finals is a phenomenal achievement and I’m delighted for them to have been selected to represent us. I can’t wait to see them compete later this month!”

All four students received a certificate for reaching the finals, which will take place virtually, and we wish them the very best!
