Brixham College’s ‘Oblivion’ Greenpower Race team, made up of students from years 8-10, participated in their first event of the season at RAF Chivenor on Sunday 26th May.

The day began early as the team arrived and set up for scrutineering at 7:30 am. The car passed safety checks with flying colours, allowing the team to practice on the track before the races. Supported by a pit crew of Erin O’Brien, Sophia Little, and Leon Ingram, the team was ready to compete.

In the first race, Oliver Bailey started at the wheel. Although the team had a slow start due to gearing disadvantages, Oliver made a quick pit stop, handing over to Jack French, who continued racing for the next 30 minutes. Finally, Freddie Sutton took over and made considerable progress, overtaking other cars as they retired or ran out of battery power, finishing the race in a respectable 11th place out of 17 cars.

In the afternoon, the second race began with Alex Coombes making an impressive start. However, his racing time was cut short due to another car rolling on a corner. Alfie Burton then took over, smoothly navigating the track and achieving the team’s best lap time. Will Godfrey drove the final leg, securing a 13th place finish.

Overall, it was a remarkable effort for the team's first outing. The event was fun and provided valuable experience, highlighting areas for future improvement in the car's speed.

We extend our gratitude to the parents who supported the team and to our sponsors: Brixham Rotary, the councillors of St Peter's with St Mary's Ward in Brixham, The Bay Coffee Company, Queensgate Prior, G & L Consultancy, The Guardhouse Café, Amtek, and Brixham Trawler Agents.

The next race is on Sunday, June 2nd, at Castle Combe, where the team hopes to improve their pit stops and coordination.
