Students in the Sixth Form have been focused on studying their chosen subjects for the last two years, exemplifying hard work and dedication to their learning. This year, Brixham College was pleased to report an increase in the number of students achieving three A* to C grades and an increase in the overall pass rate.
The College also saw particular success in subjects including mathematics, with 80% of grades at A to B; history with 67% of grades at A to B; English literature with 44% of grades at A* to B; and sociology where 40% of grades were A* to B.
Alongside the school's overall success, many students have achieved exceptional individual results, including:
Rebecca Shan who successfully achieved A* Maths, A Philosophy, B English Literature and has secured her place to study Philosophy at Nottingham University.
April Bates who achieved an A* in Chinese, A in Maths, B in Biology and B in Chemistry. She will be studying Chemistry at Bristol University.
Ella-Rose Glover achieved an A* in Sociology, B in English Literature and a C in Biology and has secured her place to study Sociology at Exeter University.
Emma Lock achieved an A in Maths, B in Chemistry and a C in Biology. She will be studying Pharmacy at Birmingham University.
Evie Bright achieved an A in Graphics, a Distinction in Sport and a C in Textiles. She will be studying Textile Design at Plymouth University.
Collecting their A-Level results today, April Bates, said: I am relieved and happy. I loved being at Brixham College – I've met nice friends and teachers. It’s all turned out ok. I’m planning to do a Chemistry degree at Bristol.
Emma Lock said: I am very happy with my results and excited to go to Brimingham University next year to study Pharmacy.
Rebecca Shan said: I feel happy – I had heart palpitations this morning. I am very grateful for all my teachers – you can tell how much effort everyone has put in.
Neve Kirkpatrick said: I’m so happy with my results and thankful to my teachers for enabling my success.
Rebecca Blackshaw, Principal at Brixham College, said:
“Although I am new to Brixham College, I have been hugely impressed by the ambition of our sixth form students and the commitment of our staff. A Level results day can feel like the end of a journey, but for our students it is really the beginning of the next one. We want every student who comes through our sixth form to leave us with the qualifications, confidence and ambition to succeed in whatever they choose to do next. Whether they are progressing to university, apprenticeships, employment or other destinations, I want them to know how proud we are of them and wish them every success for the future. They should be very proud of what they have accomplished.
I would like to thank our parents and families for the encouragement and support they have provided throughout the year. Behind every successful student is a network of people who believe in them, and the partnership between our college, our students and their families has been hugely important.
I would also like to pay tribute to our excellent teaching staff, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to support, challenge and encourage our students to fulfil their potential. Their commitment and dedication has made a real difference.”
